UNAPOLOGETIC Exhibition

Bath Artists’ Studios, a volunteer-led, non-profit arts collective supporting contemporary artistic practice in the United Kingdom.

Dislocated Presence, Persistent Form

UNAPOLOGETIC extends the conditions of exhibition, where presence is negotiated beyond the physical object.

Bath, United Kingdom — March 7, 2026 – Bath Artists’ Studios presented UNAPOLOGETIC, a group exhibition foregrounding works that resist aesthetic compromise and operate with conceptual clarity. Within this framework, Sillygoose was included as part of the exhibition through a mediated presentation, with works installed via digital display and accompanying catalogue material.

While international logistics limited the intake of physical works for this edition, the inclusion situates the practice within the exhibition’s critical discourse. The presentation underscores an expanded understanding of exhibition-making, where material absence does not equate to conceptual absence, and where the work continues to function through image, reproduction, and encounter.

The Artist

Practice and Position

Sillygoose is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of abstraction, narrative, and design. The practice is anchored in an investigation of restraint, negative space, and the subtle tensions embedded within contemporary experience. Rather than relying on overt symbolism or resolution, the work operates through suggestion, fragmentation, and controlled ambiguity.

Across both digital and material processes, the practice privileges form, surface, and compositional economy. Each work is constructed as a site of quiet negotiation, where meaning is neither fixed nor immediate, but emerges through duration, attention, and proximity. The result is a body of work that resists spectacle, instead inviting a slower, more reflective mode of viewing.

The Works

Selected Works in UNAPOLOGETIC

The Drowned Saint
A figure positioned between preservation and dissolution. The surface registers as both relic and residue, where erosion functions as a form of inscription. The gaze remains fixed, holding tension between endurance and surrender, suggesting a temporality shaped by immersion and aftermath.
Weight of Silence
Here, stillness accumulates into density. The surface becomes an archive of pressure, where marks function as residue rather than gesture. Silence is articulated not as absence, but as a sustained condition that reshapes the body it inhabits.

The Gallery

Context and Institution

Bath Artists’ Studios operates as an artist-led, volunteer-driven space committed to supporting contemporary practice through accessible and critically engaged exhibitions. Rooted in Bath’s cultural landscape, it provides a platform for both emerging and established artists to present work within a framework of dialogue and experimentation. Its programme reflects a curatorial openness, where diverse practices are brought into conversation without hierarchy. In doing so, the gallery sustains a model of collective production, where exhibition-making is shaped as much by community as it is by individual vision.

The Voice

“The conditions of display may shift, but the work remains operative. It does not depend on proximity alone, but on the intensity of its encounter.”
— Sillygoose

The Buzz

Context and Relevance

UNAPOLOGETIC brings together practices that operate with a degree of refusal, rejecting dilution in favour of clarity of intent. Within this context, Sillygoose’s work contributes a language of restraint and internal tension, positioning the figure as both site and subject of negotiation.

The mediated presentation does not diminish the work’s conceptual integrity. Instead, it reinforces a broader shift within contemporary exhibition practice, where circulation, reproduction, and digital translation extend the life of the work beyond singular material instances. The works function not as fixed objects, but as evolving encounters, capable of sustaining meaning across formats and contexts.
